Traffic Will Be Worse: Dennis Zine, Former Councilman and Police Officer

Dennis P. Zine, a former L.A. City Councilman and retired LAPD police officer spoke at the June 7 meeting and predicted that traffic will be getting worse, not better. Most people will not take public transportation. There are pile-ups on the 101 and 405 Freeways and we're not adequately staffed to handle the volume.

The budget for the City of Los Angeles is $8.billion and we're still having to rob Peter to pay Paul. The officers we have today are frustrated because they can't do all that's needed to be done. "Police ofrficers have been given a bad rap," said Zine. The challenges today are much greater than back in 1968 whe Zine started with the LAPD. Now we have tasers and pepper5 spray. If you're stranded on the freeway, the Highway Patrol is there. If you call 911, it's the city's police officers that respond and yet "there's a lack of resspect for law enforcement," said the former police officer.

Although President Obama has said, "no military armament" for local police departments but this equipment is important. "The police are not equipped as they should be to handle many of the situations they encounter. They are taking a risk every time they're on duty to keep all of us safe," said Zine.
