Don’t you agree? What if you could change just one life? Would it be worth it to you? It’s worth it to me. Let’s work together so every one of you can feel that you make a difference in the world. How do you accomplish this? You can participate in the Rotary Humanitarian trip to Merida in January 2017 and participate in hands on projects. On a smaller scale, volunteer to serve meals to the homeless every Friday night in Woodland Hills. Your options are endless if you think about it.
On September 18 our club was honored by the Valley Women’s Center for our contributions to their cause. They treat women with alcohol and drug abuse on an outpatient basis. Many suffer from domestic violence. We received an award, and three beautiful certificates of appreciation for my wall! Thanks for the great participation. Jay, Jeff, Arturo, and Bryna had fun modeling. I think everyone had a good time.
Please participate in our District Governor’s visit to our Club on October 5. He only comes once a year and this is it! He will inspire and motivate you and those you bring with you. Greg O’Brien is a retired Superior Court Judge. We are not required to refer to him as “your honor!”
We are trying to raise money for RotaCare. This is a free or low cost health care clinic we have been trying to set up in the West Valley for several years. The current chosen location is the Valley Women’s Center. The proceeds from our Halloween Family Faire on October 29th will be used to support this project.
Talking about the Halloween Family Faire(oh, not again!) please be prepared to volunteer your time most of the day on Saturday, October 29 to help us set-up, run and take down this event. (We’ll accept contributions in lieu of labor!) We will also need help decorating all day Friday, October 28. What’s Halloween without Scarecrows, spiders, webs, pumpkins, ghosts, black cats and skeletons? We have lots of those to hang! We are expecting a HUGE turnout so please offer to help if you haven’t been approached. Lynn Miller has the Rotary sign- up sheet. Kids can sign up to help with Alice Muntean.
We need more members to eat lunch at the Country Club. It would be nice to meet the 25 person guarantee weekly. Please eat if you can, or take home food in a doggie bag! That works too. Please help out here if you can.
Our Chilean Rotary Exchange student, Javier, is going to High School here in the West Valley throughout our school year. He would love to join you and your family for a fun day at Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios….let Alice Muntean know when you’d like to spend the day with him. He’s a good kid!
I will bring a suggestion box to each meeting so you can help me make changes that you think would benefit the club. Maybe you have some meeting ideas? Program ideas? Want to meet less often or more often? Anonymous notes are fine too.
Please invite guests to our meetings and events. Let’s get more people involved who can make a difference in our Community.

Volunteer are Needed for the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival
We really need some additional volunteers for our Clubs Kids Pumpkin Painting booth at the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival were running on Saturday 10/15 and Sunday 10/16. Most of you were kind enough to volunteer last ear forthis club event and we really need your help again this year. We desperately need help for the below 3 shifts; PLEASE!

If you helped last year you’ll remember, it’s a LOT of FUN and easy to do. Spouses, kids, grandkids and nieces/nephews are all welcome of they can help too. Coats for Kids
With a heart filled with gratitude, I would like to thank all of you for the great teamwork towards our Coat Project. The time spent to sort and organize the coats would benefit 565 needy families in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles areas.
Our next step would be sending them to the different dry cleaners in the next few weeks, will let you know once we confirm who is willing to assist us this year. My hearty thanks to Dylette's son for sharing his hugs with all of the volunteers. Lastly, for my Sparrow, for allowing us pet you for our relaxation in between work.

Soraya Deen Spoke About Achieving Peace
At our meeting on Wednesday September 21 following our Rotarian of the Day Frank Rappaport’s comments on his wonderful experience in Rotary, and celebrating President Diane’s birthday, our guest speaker Soraya Deen, an inspirational speaker and author of Peace provided us with a guideline for how to lead a peaceful life free of conflict.
Soraya reminded us how important it is when communicating with others to listen carefully to what they are saying and to observe what we see and hear without making judgments and take responsibility for our own actions.
She also reminded us that what happens t one person can affect all of us and that to have peace in our personal life, as well as in our society we must learn to come together.

What better example of Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” is the Pacific Boys Lodge, a home for troubled young boys . This is just one of the wonderful contributions which our Club does for our community. On Wednesday evening September 28the Rotary Club of Woodland Hills was honored by the Lodge for the financial and other aid and support we give to this important organization.
On a beautiful post summer evening following a scrumptious BBQ dinner we heard from the Staff of the Pacific Boys Lodge about their many activities including a most inspiring talk by its leading mentor Robert A. Jakini (a man who is also an executive with Silverado a major Hospice Administrator) who told how he himself worked his way from a troubled young man living in a similar facility to a leading successful care giving Executive.
The evening was further enhanced by entertainment by a number of Lodge residents and concluded by a major Raffle which made it possible for many of our members to leave carrying beautiful Baskets filled with assorted goodies.
