A big thank you to 45 of our members who contributed to the success of our first Halloween Family Faire, held October 29th at Warner Center Park. The event was led by co-chairs Jay Saltzman and Paul Lawler. We had between 3,000 and 4,000 people in attendance!!! This is a great start for our first Halloween event ever!
This community event attracted families with young kids. Everyone seemed to have a great time, including the volunteers! This was a joint effort with the West Valley-Warner Center Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Cultural Center.
Special thanks to our non-Rotarian volunteers: Gabe Muntean (my bf and Alice’s brother) who donated and constructed our Tic Tac Toe game and Monster bean bag toss game for us and spent at least 20 hours working the event. Mia Montano, from my office, who put in about 70 hours to help prepare the kids section, came up with lots of great ideas, prepared an endless number of Excel spreadsheets, and provided prizes for the costume contest and pet costume contest. Jessica, from Paul Lawler’s office who kept minutes of all of our meetings, helped with flyers, and worked the event. John Berweiler, Kim Wall’s husband, volunteered (or Kim volunteered him!) to work at the Pumpkin Painting activity for the entire day!
All of our new members participated and most were in costume!
Thank you, Richard Standke for donating / building the witch hat ring toss game and a photo board for the event, and Eva Hainer for painting pumpkins on the board. Eva’s quite an artistic!
Committee members were: Jeff Stern, Lynn Miller, Michael Turner, Sandy Rosenholz, Alice Muntean, and Mark Stewart. Great team work!!!
Many members donated supplies and prizes to the event. We had several generous members who sponsored the event as well.
In addition to our member participation, there were another 45 outside volunteers from El Camino Real High School and Anthem. More good news! El Camino Real High wants us to start an Interact club on campus! (That’s a High School Rotary Club) Thanks Alice Muntean!

Our second lucky member had his house tee-peed last month! Congrats to Barry Verga who received only the 2 roll TP job! He contributed $50 to our Foundation as a “decorating fee.” Thanks for being a good sport, Barry!
Thanks Matt Schaaf, who contributed the proceeds from our members who attended a lobster dinner at his house—$250 was contributed to our Foundation.
Fundraisers don’t have to be large in size to be meaningful. Smaller fundraisers work too!
Jill Mellman planned our last Wednesday Night Live meeting at The Rack on October 26th. Many members came in costume to promote our upcoming Halloween event…and just Halloween!)
Add this to your calendar! November 10th will be an all-day Fundraiser at Chili’s on Fallbrook—15% of proceeds come back to our club! Eat there any time on the 10th. If you want to meet members for dinner, meet at 6:00 p.m. Bring your families and friends! The more we eat, the more we make! Bring the coupon below so our club receives a 15% donation—coordinated by Elegance Hippolyte.
Our program at the Country Club on November 2nd honored the Police officers at the Topanga Station. This is our “Officers of the Quarter” awards. They honor from within the station. This award luncheon means A LOT TO THESE OFFICERS! They are being shot at these days. Seriously! I was disappointed that we didn’t have a better member turnout. I hope more of you will attend in February. They receive very little community recognition. I know some meetings are more entertaining than others, but I’m asking for your support in the future, please.
