Alice Muntean Participated in National Immunization Day in India

National Immunization Day for 2015 was observed across India on January 18. As part of this program, children 5 years and under were given Polio drops as part of the government's drive to sustain polio eradication in India.  Every year India observes National Immunization Day to mark the launch of the Polio Pulse Program. India has been operating the program since 1995. The last case of wild polio was reported on January 13, 2011.

To date, Rotary has contributed more than $1.3 billion to fight polio worldwide. Through 2018, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match $2 for every $1 that Rotary commits to polio eradication (up to $35 million a year). In 2014 there were only 350 confirmed polio cases in the world, down from about 350,000 a year when the initiative began in 1988.

Our very own Alice Muntean, who recently returned from National Immunization Day in India ,shared with us her experience giving the life-saving polio drops to children in India.
