Demotion Dinner

The North Ranch Country Club was the scene of the Woodland Hills Rotary Club annual “Demotion” Dinner on Wednesday, June 22, when Jeffrey Stern, its 2015-2016 president, handed the gavel of leadership to Diane Nelson and her new Board of Directors who will lead the club starting on July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.

As Rotary District 5280 Governor-elect Cozette Vergari administered the oath of office to the new club leaders, she praised the club and its 85 members for outstanding accomplishments in living up to Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.” She highlighted the club’s active involvement in serving the West Valley community by providing both financial and personal support for the homeless, youth and seniors, public and private schools as well as events honoring our public servants.

In addition, on the international front, the club has raised thousands of dollars for the Rotary International Foundation by working with the William and Melinda Gates Foundation to eradicate polio. The club also has donated wheel chairs; built classrooms hospitals, water systems, and toilets; and provided desks and school supplies for the underprivileged in Ethiopia, New Guinea, Nigeria, and India. When it comes to global crises, the club also has been a leader assisting Shelter Box, the Red Cross, and Rotoplast. The latter is an international program that repairs children’s cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities

Members of the Woodland Hills Rotary are business professionals and community leaders who are among the 1,200,000 members and 35,000 clubs in Rotary worldwide. The club meets at the Woodland Hills Country Club on Wednesdays at noon to enjoy fellowship, plan service projects that serve the needs of both the local and international communities and listen to informative speakers.
