I just wanted to take a moment to say how incredibly proud I am of our club. Seeing so many of you come out to support our Rotary Hearts in Action Gala truly meant the world. Your energy, your generosity, and your commitment to what we do made the evening so special and so impactful. (In the photo are honoree Albert Hernandez and event co-chair Lois Koch).
A very special thank you and kudos to my amazing co-chair, Lois, and our incredible committee: Mona, Diane, Robin, Shelley, Kim, Bryna, Paulinda, Eva, and Michelle. This event would not have been possible without your time, dedication, and heart. You truly brought this evening to life.
I also had the pleasure of meeting with the President and Vice President of our Interact Club, and I have to say…we have something really special there. They were selected to speak at the District Breakfast (how amazing is that!) and shared how excited they are to get involved and join us on some of our service projects.
And I have to mention, our night meetings have been so much fun! If you haven’t attended one yet, please do. We’re getting to know each other in such a meaningful way, and it’s been really special to learn more about our members beyond our regular meetings.
It’s moments like these that remind me how strong and inspiring our Rotary family really is, from our members to the next generation of leaders.
Thank you all for showing up, stepping up, and continuing to make a difference.
Thank you for your dedication, your kindness, and your unwavering commitment to doing good in our community. I am grateful to serve alongside you.

An awesome event at LAJH. A new Bingo machine was donated by the club, a private foundation and Payab Family. Little Rotarian Drew called the first game followed by Annette and Stacy. The Executives sponsors the Bingo nights for the residents who live on campus. Pictured are Christine Pinto President 2025-2026 and Joe Michael Flores President Elect-elect 2027-2028. Rotary expands our world and helps us make unexpected special friendships!
Eleven years ago, as the charter president of Little Tokyo Rotary, I visited Rotary District 2530 in Fukushima, Japan, to begin a $200,000 Rotary Global Grant Project to revitalize the economy of the severely devastated areas in Fukushima by the East Japan Earthquake of 2011. It was a multi-country effort by districts in Japan, South Korea and the U.S.
The host club’s main contact was Mr. Keisuke Hayakawa, who became D2530’s Governor in 2024-25. He sent Kotoko Takyu to D5280 last summer. Governor Hayakawa remembered me and told Kotoko to contact me once she got here, which she did.
Now I have new dear friends, Kotoko, her host mom Emiko Kuwata and Kotoko’s host grandma Sachiko Fukumoto! In the bottom photo, Kotoko was speaking at the March District Breakfast.

Editor's Note: Kotoko is sponsored by our club. In addition, our sponsored Interact Club was represented by Aria and Shayla.
